Calci sand no and grapes are not citrus fruits, oranges are, grapes are ok for big beardys. Avoid fruit for the small ones, too much phosphorus and sugar leads to dierria

I know this, it was an example of mixed or wrong info. First I saw about no fruit for small ones.

Yes try to avoid it. The correct diet is 30% dark leaf vegetables such as turnip greens, water cress and chycory greens (served as first dish in the morning to stimulate eating, finely shopped and mixed with some Zoomeds reptivit) alongside 70% bugs, in this case calcium dusted small crickets and roaches. If your beardy is really small the crickets must be pinheads and he will eat many in one day. As he growns you can ad mealworms, locusts and waxworms. The protein side of the diet will greatly decrease as he ages.

I ve always had beardies in fine sifted levelling sand. The only time I dont is between the first 2-3 days out of the egg. They stay in paper towel ....while they get accustomed to life out of the egg.

Thanks. This is the kind of info that is useful. Will get substrate switched immediately.

so, tiles no good?

I was about to ask that as well. I've tried every substrate under the sun and recently switched to a lineoleum tile which I love. It is very easy to keep clean, looks nice, and he dragon obviously can not ingest it.

Varanio....can you tell me why you don't like it?

Can anyone recommend some good sand?
Play sand looks a little unnatural to me..
The reptile sand at petco is way too dusty also.

Riverbed sand

I use plan old sifted dirt
but where I live the dirt is similar to that of a beardies homeland
it is a sand/clay red dirt

So which sand is ideal? You guys say leveling sand or play sand but not calci sand. Just talked to a guy at a LPS that breeds and raises them. He says calci sand only, nothing with silica and when they get bigger you won't want to use any sand as it's too hard to clean. Says one time of urinating and it's smells up the whole house and one defecation is instantly noticable. What are your experiences? I know I've seen more activity since switching to sand. Also read that sand should be deep enough for digging.
