New Bichir (poly) but already hurt :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
as doc b had said, just make sure your lap eats. if you have a hospital or grow out tank, might as well fish him out and take him to either.
in solitary will help him grow faster and will keep him away from stress.

btw, your lap has nice patterns!
good luck and keep us posted!

Is he at least eating? I think thats something you need to make sure happens. If he gets blocked out by tank mates and doesn't get enough to eat that will cause more problems and maybe even death. I had this happen to one of my first senegalus I bought 2 at a young age and one just didn't like the other and bit his fins off. I would place food by his head hoping he would get it at night, but the other one ended up getting it. I later that month found him dead trying to eat the substrate.
Unfortunately he is not eating at this time :(. There is plenty of food available for him but he's showing no interest and doesn't move.
I have a lap coming in from him this week. Going to see if I can get this one bigger than my other 4 that stopped at 11-12". It's nice to see he's starting to carry a bit more west African fish.
Well they are nice! It is nice to see more Bichers! Since they are extremely rare here. Even senegals are uncommon.

And it's unfortunate I do not have a hospital tank as I had recent spawn a few weeks ago and the fry are occuping resources. But I did move the aggressor out of this tank so now it's mostly other bottom feeders including a really tiny delhezi which I'm hoping will help the lap eat! The wound seems to be healing well and the lap is now coming closer to the bottom and sometimes sits in different spots. For the first two days he didn't move from a top the heater.

What are you trying to feed him? One food my bichirs go completely nuts for is fish eggs. If you can get your hands on some, try them out.
I've been feeding various pellets as all my bichirs usually take them the first night but all my others usually are always hunting. This one's a log :p. Maybe I'll try krill or blood worms but target feedings a little tricky with the other hungry animals at lease with pellets theirs many!

Well target feed trial #1 was a failure. I put blood worms pellets and a piece of krill in from of him. He sat there for a while then preceded to not eat and dig his head under a log

Holy cow!! He refuses to eat! I got a nls pellet to literally touch his lips for 30seconds and not even an attempt!! He was kissing the dang pellet!!! This guy does not even try to hunt! My BGK is a better eater then this guy

Have you tried beef heart? Or rubbing the food in garlic? I personally haven't used garlic but have heard it works. I have used beef heart for my stubborn guys and for growth. It's always worked for me.

I'll try the garlic thing or should I buy garlic guard? Beef heart thing may not be my thing but I guess I may try it as its been 2 weeks now without seeing him eat. He does not even try to scavenge or move from above the Heater.

How long do I have before death? On. Good note his fin is growing back healthy!

he may just be stubborn. If he's this small and going that long without eating I might throw some internal parasite treatment in there just for precaution. It's a possibility so I'd treat for it but resume everything else as normal
