I saw your very large gars,in china, this kind of gars we call it with "ghost-rocket",because it's very crazy and very devour fish. sometimes,it's ate other fish we feed in tank. On the other hand, bichir like a tube, easy to devour by this gars ,so we usually careful & wariness to feed it.I have a little gars, i don't know what kind is it, but the guy usually devour and growth fast too ,that's 15cm/month,below is old picture.
your congicus is very nice too!

i believe your gar is either Lepisosteus platyrhincus ('florida gar') or Lepisosteus oculatus ('spotted gar').

i believe the "ghost-rocket" gar is Atractosteus spatula, commonly called 'alligator gar'. They get very very big, can be aggressive and like to devour other fish kept with them. Mine are different...mine are Atractosteus tropicus, commonly called 'tropical gar', they are rarely imported and are only exported from Mexico, grow much smaller (usually <30" in aquarium), and much more friendly to other fish.

I usually feed them loach they like.i have a queston, how long your bichir food to feed them? i feel, big-fish rather than small-fish to feed them.so,my bichir's food are all big than 4" recently, i think the loach maybe more and more by next feed.
i think occasionally they are 4"+, usually smaller. i like to make sure the bichirs can swallow the food easily.

The other question about your filtration:
Do u set two overflow drains near water surface? how can clean bichirs dejecta in bottom tank?is it automatism decompound by biology?
some will be taken to the surface by the water current and drain out, some i remove during water changes. it's not really noticeable in the tank due to the substrate. But yes this is the problem with standard overflow, they only drain near the surface. You could custom-make ones with holes near the bottom, but i chose not to do that.

wow, what types of substrate are you using?? i really like the look.
thanks! it's mostly 3M Colorquartz. color is 3:2:1 of tan:buff:brown. the small amount of white/black grains you see are CaribSea African Cichlid Sand.

yes my setup is a wet/dry.

what do you mean by the diffuser system? something that adds air bubbles in the water? Or...? can you show me a picture or post a website link? whatever it is, i guess i'm not using one :D

i see. do you know what the purpose is? it's placed in the wetdry or somewhere else? i haven't really seen people use it with wetdry setup, at least for freshwater setup in the US. i don't know....i'll look around on the internet and see if i find anything.
