New bichirs in temporary tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
awesome birchers and i love that setup

too bad they aren't gonna be in there for long

The delhezi and ornatipinnis are the smallest at around 6". The palmas palmas (thanks to Infblue for identifying it) is the biggest (length and girth)at about 8" long. If I recall correctly, they were all about the same price (the ornate was the cheapest, rest about the same).

The "final" tank for them will be a 72x24x30 (210 GA) with red quartz sand, a waterfall (tank filled maybe only 22") w/ a DIY styrofoam/concrete facade background. It's going to be a lot of work and time, but it should look really cool when complete.

Nice Buetikkoferi, I have one growing up right now.

Wow that del is AWESOME

The Polypterus are absolutely beautiful, I think my favorite is the del also, just from the pictures. Keep us in the loop watching him/her grow and mature.

Beautiful tank, where'd you get the tank and driftwood?

The tank is just an All-Glass 60 gallon 36x24x24. I chose the taller tank just so I could leave the top part open for the Bichirs, and when they move to a bigger tank, use this as a planted tank. I got the tank and driftwood from a great LFS (mom/pop operation, they really know their stuff and care for the fish). They're keeping an eye out for cool pieces of driftwood.

BTW, thanks everyone for the compliments! I'll take more picture of the tank as the plants grow in.

Why is the water level so far down?
