so the mitsu's are quality ehh?

Yep. I had a 55" mitsu that I got free because of a warranty issue on a Samsung that broke down. Soon after I sold that 55 mitsu to a friend so I could pick up the 65"...it's amazing how much of a difference 10" makes.

I know I am late on this but I have a 65" Mits and love it as well BUT..... I also have a front projection system that costs less than the 65" Mits and has a MUCH larger picture size (106") and performs just as well. And if I were going to buy today I think I would have gotten the front projection system and not the 65" Mits, but also a smallish(32") flat panel for everyday use.

Now if you still want the big CRT TV a couple things to consider.

1. Burn-in! rear projection CRT TV's burn in easier than ANY other technology currently available. If you intend to watch your regular NON HD stations with black or grey bars on the sides you may have a problem, same with sports tickers and news tickers and station logos. And burn in no matter how it is attained is NEVER covered by ANY warrenty.

2. Calibration! My Mits's settings tend to "float" as with most other CRT RPTV's and at least monthly I am forced to re-calibrate using a good set-up disc (avia or S&V). Not a big deal to me but it can take the better part of an hour. Some people never calibrate thier sets, but those people will also never really know just how good thier sets can perform.

3. Big CRT RPTV's are not known for great INTERNAL de-interlacers and USUALLY do a lackluster job with regular old cable and sat TV. Yes HD looks outstanding, but at least 60-70% of what you watch will still be NON HD so be warned that the pic that the set provides, while completely watchable, will not look as good as your good old square TV.
Progressive scan? Well for any CRT HDTV you pretty much are going to want one. Again the de-interlacers in these TV's isnt very good and you WILL notice a difference with a GOOD DVD player.

So if these are things that you could live with than GO FOR IT! Because no matter what salesman tries to tell you that DLP, LCD, 1080p ect. is better than a CRT 1080i RPTV there are hundreds of users and professional reviewers that are not going to agree. NONE of those technologies can deliver the deep blacks and shadow detail that a good CRT set can provide and when all is said and done that is the biggest link in the great picture debate!

BTW, Pioneer, Mits, Hitachi and Toshiba were the CRT TV's to beat. Im pretty sure that the Mits and Hitachi sets are still available and will blow the doors off of the Phillips or the Magnavox/RCA available at Wal-Mart.

Spend the extra few bucks and go for the MITS!
