Its definitely a tough guess, I have one with a single black stripe that turned out being a female and breeds with my ZZ all the time. Good luck thats a nice one.

yea almost impossible to sex ive been told the females have in general rounder fins like most cichlids and thinner faces when looking straight on in comparison to the males, and of course the female will have a fat blunt-ended tube when its out male has thin pointy tube...Males are generally infertile (98%) but females eggs are usually good u could cross it with a texas (potentially make some red texas') or flowerhorn etc
It's definately a female. It laid eggs last night. But unfortunately they weren't fertilized seeing as the majority of fish in my tank are female. So she ended up just eating them.
My gf got me a BGK for christmas, i only paid for it, and picked it out and there for the entire process. i guess i really bought it she just approved the buy haha.
