After my Silver for five years knocked of the plexi glass tops and was found dead on the floor in September I have had a mostly 360 gallon South American Tank with out an Arowana. I saw a 12 inch black Arowana for sale in the valley and since they have not been available here in California for a while and when they are only for a small period (a couple months) I purchased one. The tank has floating plants (I perfer to give my Arowanas floating plants for many reasons) and water flows in the upper column of the water for the Arowanas to swim in. I think the Arowana is going to be happy. His tank mates include 16 inch African Tiger Fish, 16 inch Siamese Tiger Fish, 2 adult Oscars, 14 Red Hooks and Silver Dollars, 14 inch Marble, Giaraff and Shovelnose Cats, 2 Golden Dorado, and 1 Montegunses. The tank is somewhat crowded however not at the top water column. I'm still going to carefully monitor the Black Arowana to make certain the arowana intergates well into the tank.

eh....

u have a 16" ATF vs. a 12" BLK arowana????

a bit risky.... but i guess ur tank is big enough.. so makes up for it.. but i wouldnt have...

Yeah I know sounds kind of crazy. After 3 1/2 years schooling with the red hooks and the golden dorado and arowanas before I have never seen him in a fight. Once about a year ago I had a payara that had a bite on his fin that looked like it could have been the African Tiger Fish other than that nothing. I'm going to continue to monitor the tank and I have got other tanks that if fighting occurs I can move the Black Arowana. The African Tiger fish absolutely perfers prawn chunks over normal feeder does not seem normal to me for that kind of predator..

just be very careful with ATFs... they look harmless.. but hahaha.. its not... its a serious predator fish.... their like sharks of freshwater...

Arowanas might look like a predatory fish.. but its not a fish that can bite other fish.. their teeth aren't that big to cause serious damage..

also.. its African.. vs what most of ur fish seem to be South American..

keep us posted.. love to see some tank shots of ur monsters, (ATF + Blk Arowana)

whats the difference between a black and a silver?
blacks have blue fin and silvers have faded red/pink tail

I just checked again and the Africa is about 13 to 14 inches making it only 2 or 3 inches bigger that the Black Arowana. I hear your concern though and I'm going to watch closely.

any pictures of the aro yet>?
