I am wanting to change my substrate to a semi fine black substrate but am not sure what should be looking for. I have a 75 gallon tank that houses african peacocks, I would like to see if i can get a couple of plants to grow in there aswell, "if my guys dont destroy and dig to badly. I wouldnt be as concerned if I was starting a tank from scratch but with it being set up I didnt know what the best options are for me do ya'll have and idea's?

if you get the black substate, make sure you rinse and rinse and rinse. it will take atleast an hour or more of rinsing or esle when you put it in your water, the tank will turn blaack

fishmamma recently posted up a new tank she had done with black sand. It looked really nice. Another member, Obolsky, recently took sand out of his established tank and replaced with gravel. He said it was a pain, but he got it done without harming the fish.

I assume it can be done...but, it's not going to be all that easy. You'll want to shut down your filters when adding the sand back. But, you won't want them down too long for fear of losing your BB.

lol.. C! I was gonna tell her the same thing right before you posted... He always beats me!!! (that doesn't sound very good..lol)

I really enjoy it.. although it took 40lbs for my 40B.. well that's because I like it to be a little thick.. and it's about 1 1/2 - 2" or so.. it also took me an hour and a half to really get it clean.. even then the water was still a little cloudy... but my morning it was almost gone... I also like the fact that the particles are large enough to not float around.. and if I need to rearange or whatever else.. it settles immediately...I will definitely continue to use it in future projects... Sorry can't remember the name.. but if your really interested in knowing the brand I'll find it for you.
