am really bored tonight so i started to mess with the camera setting and shoot some pictures... these are a few that came out decent without flash.

i do have a question tho.. my orinos are f1's from deiselmacks f0. when should i expect the blue in the fins and the bright gold around the black spots to show up? right now really really light green is starting to show in the tail.. but i thought most of their color would show up by now because they are around 12 inches. should i stop expecting those colors to show?

also i have tried for the past 2 months to get my 2 ocells off of live feeders and they just wont budge even when doing what the sticky says. they will eat dead shiners but thats they only thing they will touch dead. any other ways how besides starving? i think they are just way too stubborn

1 more thing :) my small occel has some really cool black spangles with gold outlining over a good chunk of its body. is it a hybrid or is this an ocell trait?

If your ocells are eating shiners try feeding just these for a while, no live food at all. If they get used to this start dropping in shrimp in between feeding the shiners till they start taking them. What are your orino's eating?

the ornios eat shrimp... but the ocells wont eat the shiners they second it hits the water like the orinos. theyll let the shiners float around for a little bit... so its kinda hard to get them to attack anything

Nice collection!
Your Ocells sound real stubborn.. how long have you tried getting them to eat dead food/pellets for?

over a month now ive been trying to convert them.. with no luck

how big are they?
you can try starving them...if they are big enough.
ive heard somewhere that orinos wont show full potential if the water ph is too high.
try getting the ph to 6-7.
they should be showing color already.
much more than in those pics.
or they dont feel comfortable.

it could be the lighting also.... the smallest one is about 10.5 inches.. they do show color but i think that the big ocell is kinda roughing them up a little... most of the time the are bland but the bigger orino has shown alot of potential when hes in the mood i guess. i will have a couple power compacts in about 3 weeks so well see what they look like under real lighting other than these stock shop lights..

I would also like to add that a darker substrate helps bring out the colors.
