I would also like to add that a darker substrate helps bring out the colors.

yea i know i just wanted to try the "natural" look... but im probably going to go back to black gravel most likely or moon sand.

how big are they?
you can try starving them...if they are big enough.
ive heard somewhere that orinos wont show full potential if the water ph is too high.
try getting the ph to 6-7.
they should be showing color already.
much more than in those pics.
or they dont feel comfortable.

:iagree: with channa, lower your ph and they should colour up.. also try ading some shrimp to their diet, that also brings out colour (it did for my bass)..

the orinos which are showing the least color are the only ones that will eat the shrimp...

it could be the lighting also.... the smallest one is about 10.5 inches.. they do show color but i think that the big ocell is kinda roughing them up a little... most of the time the are bland but the bigger orino has shown alot of potential when hes in the mood i guess. i will have a couple power compacts in about 3 weeks so well see what they look like under real lighting other than these stock shop lights..

yes lighting will help.... but your substrate is white so your fish are washed out and pale! no need to go all black... just darker than white:naughty:

so lighting and darker substrate...! hope that works :)

it should...
and lower the ph.
these guys are f1 correct?
i would think they prefer lower ph since theyre so close to the wild ones.

My ph has never been a problem yet.
Yes they are f1's so they should be use to med ph levels correct?
The ocells aren't agro eaters so its almost impossible to get them to eat shrimp or anything besides shiners
