I was given a 55 gallon with some older type equipment. I have never seen it used before and was wondering if any of you guys could give me some help.

sorry for the large image, I am using tiny pic! :headbang2

To describe the equipment briefly: Four tubes with filter type ends, Four skinny rod like straws, I think a breeder box, two weird pumps? and some squares that connect together to form a platform on the bottom. I think it might be for saltwater. Any input will be appreciated! also if you know how to put it all together or know of a website I would appreciate that too

The tubes are lift tubes, they attach to the "platforms" which sit in the tank under a layer of gravel. Air pump creates the lift by pumping air through the "straws".

...pull the "filters" off the riser tubes and see if one of those power heads fit the tube...this also will pump water from underneath the gravel...
Do those risers have a place to fit into the flat undergravel plates?

So far I connected all the black risers. I have four of those clear tube filters sticking up. It looks right, Do you have a diagram I could go by? I forgot to mention I have a few rubber hoses as well. Zennzzo I thank you for your reply, You are always in alot of people threads providing a lot of help... giving you thanks ahead of time bro

I have 5 hoses. I attached three to the output valves and one to the input and I don't know what to do from here. Do I put the hoses down the "filter" tubes to create the lift?

Yes they go through the top and down the riser, to the bottom, just above the plate and you put an airstone on the air line.

As you pump air to the airstone, the bubbles rise and with that they create an upward water current from beneath the plates that are covered with gravel.

This filtering system is called an Under Gravel Filter or UFG for short.
