That pic of the snakehead was better. If you're shooting at high shutter speeds I don't think you'll need the tripod. Just keep playing around with it and you'll get the hang of it. I usually take a lot of bad ones before I end up with a few good ones.
 
The 1st shot is right focused on the head, but, with shallow DOF I assume, so, the rear part of the body is out of focus. That's a nice pose of the bichir. The focus is on the middle of the snakehead body, (near the pect. fin), and again with shallow DOF, the head area looks a bit out of focus. I suggest you use aperture priority mode and set aperture in smaller size (larger aperture number), also set ISO higher (if without using flash light).
 
i took pictures of mine for this project i had to do, i created a magazine cover, a table of contents, and 2 two page spreads, haha "polypterus magazine" i got an "A", im sure there are people out there who would subscribe!
