What setting is good to take picture of your tank and individuals fish? Have 2 lens for it the basic and 55/300. Just learning about photography, so need some advice. Thanks

Start out in aperture priority mode. ISO 100, and the largest aperture you have (3.5???). If you find that your shutter speed is too slow raise your ISO as needed, but remember higher iso means more noise.

If you are still not satisfied with your results then you may want to invest in a flash or a faster lens which will allow you to lower your iso and raise your shutter speed.

Pick up a book called "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. It will really help you get started.

Whats a aperture? And where?

Aperture is what controls the amount of light that goes into the camera ane hits the sensor. It is measured in whats called an f stop. For example f/2 will let in lots of light and will create a very shallow depth of field (blurred backround). On the other hand f/22 will let in much less light but will leave everything in focus(ideal for landscapes).

If you set the aperture to around f/22 or higher and press the shutter button or depth of field preview button while looking in the lens you can see the aperture blades closing in. You can also notice that the view finder gets darker.

Read your manuel, it should tell you how to change all these settings. I believe aperture priority mode is AP on the mode dial but I could be wrong (i'm a canon guy).

Once you understand the relationship between shutter speed, aperture, and iso it will all make sense. Hope this helps.

Oh I have played around with it for hours yesterday. I learn how to take lots of lighting picture already. Changing shutter and lighting to take darker and lighter shot. But i need to polish my acrylic tank to much water stain.
