New Carpintis Cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The pics I posted are from location "Chairel".
I usually associate the moniker "Electric" if attached to a new world cichlids, meaning it has some man made manipulation going on, and I avoid it like a plague.
To me using the location like Pio Hondo, Laguna Escondido, or Chairel shows the type may be a genuine carpintus, not some man manipulated hybrid, and strain.
Chairel

Below Herichthys tamasopoensis (once simply a location variant, , now given separate species status)

These are generally loaners, and the older they get the more aggressive they get, males with hit about 12 inches, maybe a little less.
Usually a tank of about 6ft long will fit a pair, and if they can will kill everything else.
This one is maybe, half to 2/3 grown in the pic.

Below almost 10-12", and he and his partner killed most of the other cichlids in a 125, before I pulled the rest to save their lives.

Below in breeding colors, female to the left.
Thank you for the info, much appreciated!

I'll keep a close eye on the interaction in the 125 as they grow. Worst case scenario I have other tanks I can switch them to or the Dempseys.

Might just be the perfect excuse to get another 6 footer tank next year. Haha

Those guys are nice. Carpintis for sure. But there are so many types from different locations. I would assume they are a Rio hondo type or can be electric blue carpintis depending on the person you got them from is going to determine what location they are from. But if it's from a lfs, it can be anything.

Thank you! Yeah I'm very interested to see how they turn out. I'm not sure about the line as I just got it from someone locally but they did share this with me.

These are the parents
