fTHANKS i know about the natrual diet but i really want to get him to eat tilapia because thats the main reason im putting him in with my MARBLE GOBY pair is to clean up and they eat a lot of tilapia. Hes been eating earthworms and shrimp dont even put blackworms in the tank hes eating the ones leftover from the fish that were in the quarantine tank before him. I dont use pellets at all hell have plenty of options but i still need him to at least eat the tilapia scraps if not hes not gonna stay.

This is what it eats in the wild. I've read that it will take leftover items like dead fish but it appears to be only after they have been sitting in the tank for a while. It's not a piscivore and will often expel small live fish from it's gills if those happen to be sucked in.

Ive read all that, i know what he eats. He also loves live worms earthworms and blackworms and eats shrimp and frozen and frieeze dried veggies. But if he wont eat the tilapia sraps he wont stay period, only room for one large cat in the tank and it has to help with cleaning.

I think in the absence of other foods, he will take to tilapia and any other scraps if that is all he will have to go by. May take a little time but I think he will. The bigger these guys are, the less fussy they tend to get about foods.

I'd be a little concerned if 100% of his diet was just flesh/tilapia fillet scraps. But I am sure you'll find a way to diversify his diet a bit so he gets the nutrients he needs. I have no clue if it may or may not hurt him to be on such a protein-rich, almost exclusive diet with no plant matter at all. I guess time will show.

I said from the beginning he would have a variety of food. None of my fish eat one thing my MARBLE GOBY tanks have lots of rockwork and woodwork so non live foods sometimes get past my gobys whom mainly feed at dusk and dawn. The cat will be feed his own food including frozen and freeze dried veggies. BUT HE STILL NEEDS TO EAT TILAPIA TO HELP WITH MAINTENANCE. My gobys eat mainly live foods along with tilapia , shrimp and whole squid they are messy with the tilapia and i need a cat who will clean up. If he doesn't no big deal ill try another cat.

I have bro. Sorry about the shortcomings of written communication. Your post above refers to your QT tank and the giraffe's diet offered in that tank, or so I thought. Then you spoke about his intended tank with the gobies and the tilapia issues and clean-up. I sincerely apologize if I am vexing you. I am just trying to help in my awkward ways. I fully realize you have done your research and I understand your intended purpose for the giraffe and I think you are an experienced keeper. There is no implied criticism and far be it from me to try and dig under you or troll. I wish you only the best.

Everything is cool. But there is no way you read the post above yours i was speaking of, post #24 i stated he loves worms and is eating shrimp and frozen, freeze dried veggies. Then in your post #25 you say u would be concerned if his diet is 100 percent fish and high protein. Idont think your being a troll or anything was just saying u couldnt have read that post.

:) I did read it but I don't expect you to believe me. It's ok if you don't. I guess it makes my post #25 sound all the stupider :) which is agreeable as I was not clear in it. Anyhow, I believe it is actually utterly senseless to post anything in any thread without having read what was said before.

I thought and still think your post #24 is about the QT tank and the diet the fish receives therein. From your comments, it sounded like the diet would be very different in the goby tank. That's the heart of our misunderstanding - two different tanks and tankmates and goals = two different diets, unless clearly stated that the diet would be (more or less) the same in the target tank. I think we are on the same page now. Yes? No?
