New catch bullhead :)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I feed them as much as they wanted to eat. I have 9 for now. I didn't count how many have white barbels and how many have black. Future plans are 660 gal.
For now 220 gal is great home. But those fish will grow litle biger. I always change water every 3-4 days on all my aquarium's. Very active botom fish. I love natural color. I don't know whay they are not more popular in this hoby.
Fisherman here hate them because they eat carp boilies. They throw them live in bushes etc. Animal is animal. People here don't have respect for those species they only care about wels and carp.

Trust me, those things will eat themselves to death lol. But two or three times a day isn't terrible. Fishermen like that annoy me, if they killed them because their reason is that the bullheads are invasive that's one thing but just for disrespectful reasons is unjustified. People are quite the opposite in the US, there will be dead carp all over the bank because they took someone's trout bait.

Interesting thread. I've read bullheads have been introduced into many water bodies in Europe. IDK if they became invasive.

If they bite a non-baited hook, they are way too hungry - not enough food for them / too many of them. Hence the smaller sizes. If the reason is too many, that also means too much hormone in the water, which too leads to stunting and maturing at smaller sizes.

You are right. Kill fish in humane way. Poke it on head... what annoy me when i'm seeing live fish in bush :)

Glad they're doing well for you! They'll grow fast and will be competing with the Aro for food in no time. My juvenile Yellows are in a 30 long with some chubs and a green sunfish and they eat half the flake from the surface of the tank before the others can even get to it. What are your's feeding on at the moment.

They refuse all my pelet's. I'm feeding chop up fish and shrimps.
Ther favorit fish is european sprat. They go crazy for it. Including all my stock.

Fast growing growing.... :D About 1'' from first post. Iwas thinking those guys grow slow.
They are 50% more fat now :D

Mine have all grown about 1" per month it seems. Got my original yellow last June at 4" and now he's pushing 11". If yours are from a stunted population they may not get that big but mine was and he's huge for the fish from the area I caught him so it appears that stunted genes may be irrelevant in captivity given adequate care.

I'd think stunting is possible but unlikely to occur with fingerlings and is not hereditary AFAIK. But development of a living organism is a highly convoluted biological process, subject to a slew of variables. We appear to know very little about it.
