I just picked up a new baby catfish from my favourite lfs and nobody knows what it is! It came in with a shipment of wild caught tsn (fasciatum) but I noticed this 1 was very different, it's got a lot blunter more rounded nose, a larger tail and higher dorsal fin the body colour is much darker and it has a lot more spots, the only thing I can think of is a corriscans because of the spots but didn't realise the juveniles would look so different? Hopefully some of you experts in ID can help

Yea it's obviously a shovelnose sp maybe a wild hybrid even but when they was side by side in the tank, pretty sure it's not a planiceps as much as I wish it was I wish it was lol

i love that cross jessie... jealous if it is.

Yeah, definitely not a planiceps. It looks to me like a TSN x Leiarius marmoratus hybrid. These come in at my lfs from time to time.
I was thinking that when I see him again last night because of the dorsal shape and he's got the striped whiskers like they have, can't wait until he grows a bit!

def. a tsnxlearius (tsnxmarmoratus) hybrid...hope u have room for 30" of fish ;)
My friend in the lfs said they was wild caught and I like to think he's honest he has always been upfront with me and I've known him for years,so can these be wild or do you think wholesalers lied about them?

These hybrids occur in the wild, fairly common fish these days...have to be careful with lfs as alot of times they really just dont know, but want your money lol... regardless, nice specimen, youll enjoy him! hope you have space/a pond for it... mine is 5yrs old and every bit of 30"....
