Just put the log in a couple days ago, no water changes and it hasn't even colored the water at all. Im really happy with the results, it would suck if it looked ****ty after all that work. The fish are liking are also liking it quite a bit.

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't use cedar in a tank it has some sort of toxic properties to it.

That's huge!!!!!!!!

I agree, the oils that cedar may leak into the water concerns me. I know that keeping snakes on cedar chip substrate is no bueno due to the oils being toxic to them... I'd be willing to bet that it's no good to fish as well.

i know it is no good for humans either some ppl more then others.

yeah definitely check that out there is a reason people used to line chests out of cedar it's gotta have something in it to keep insects away that is not pleasant. Was also thinking pine and oak are somewhat toxic.....by no means an expert on this though

definitely looks great though

yeah i know we're taking a risk, but it was definitely an old piece. You can tell, not from the photograph, that it has been in the water a long time. I have asked around and i have heard both a definite yes and no, so im really not sure. And it hasn't colored the water a bit yet and its been in there like five days now.
