New cichlid tank and fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Colour is a personal choice.  :screwy: I disagree that it brings out the colour :screwy: as I have nothing black in my 34 tanks. Put in some additional males, with females, and you will get colour, natural!
Perserverance is the name of the game!!
I have a greyshakei who for 2-3years kept on pulling out my grass, valisneria, and I just kept replanting. He has finally stopped and I have now also managed to start planting some other plant in that tank. Yes, the vegetation will become a part of their diet, but then wouldn't you rather have your fish eat what is naturally healthy for them????
I managed to find a 8ft tank that has a glass partition. The best way to get fish to show their colour. I did not realise that the fish, from two seperate tanks, had the same species in them. My hajomalandia males spent the first 20minutes at the glass in full colour. Most of the males, in both the divisions, spend quite a bit of time at the glass and this is brilliant for the colour, natural!!!

Thanks for all the comments guys!

As for getting real plants. OF course i woudl LOVE to start a planted tank but a C02 difuser for a 55g would cost a pretty penny. I just dont have the money for that at the moment. i need a new car!

Also, i got a new addition about a week ago. LEt me knwo what you think!

Call my comment crazy about the black making their color pop, but if you hold yellow construction paper up against a gray, brown back drop, it will not stand out as much as if it were against a black back drop. Natural is great, my 120 is natural, but my mbuna tank with lace rock black gravel and black ground their color stands out more than when I had white or brown sand...

I like what you did with it. Big fan of the black gravel.

good looking tank
