I have a 55 gallon setup with new fish, my wife bought them while I was at work, all she told the girl at the petstore was that I wanted cichlids. we now have 3 convicts, a pair of electric yellow, and three kenyi cichlids. I am wondering will they do ok since I have a mixture of south american and african? will the pairs still breed? I have my temp set at 80° F. I also have plenty of hiding places. As of yet, they seem to get along fine, they are all of similiar size. any tips, help, advice will be appreciated.

thats what I was thinking, well thats good news for me, means I get to set up another tank :), then I can have both south and central american cichlids in one tank, and african cichlids in the other.

Here's the thing Convicts are Central American Cihclids not South. Many Central Amercian cichlids live in water very simalar to that of African cichlids, so they will be fine together. Another point is that tank raised domestic fish as opposed to wild cought fish are born and raised in water perameters different then that which their wild ancesters came from so are perfectly suted to life in your tap water. In most caes if the fishing are living in your LFS water they will be fine in yours. I don't like to mix cichlids from different areas but that is my preferance, however it is done quite frequently. Unfortunatly you will need another excues to set up another tank ;).
