new cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well if you want to go AKA Sabertooth.. (Paraya) I would definitely Suggest getting 5-7 :) My Buddy has 5 Scombs I believe and They are awesoem Schoolers.. They work well as a pack.. Though If you do not keep them fed they will also turn on one in the pack to get their fill..

I have not personally seen anythign aroudn me to give any suggestions on FW Barracuda.. Though On here I did notice there is a user with several in the same tank.. So that too is possible..

African Piscavores/Omnmivores would include Nimbochromis that comes to mind first..Also the Emperor cichlid.. Which gorws around the same size as the American Cichla species. There are more hold up..

Emperor would be Boulengerochromis

And then members of these are also cranivores...

Buccochromis

Aristochromis

haha O MY GOSH you are wonderful! ha. i need to google image the ones that you have sent me. so hold on ha. and ill let you know what i think about hem. thats awesome that you know people with the sabertooth dudes. thats nice to know i could get 5-7 though, that is cool. and they swim which is good. hold on. thanks

ok i looked at them all. the nimbochromis i have had before. he was a cool fish but he died from a neighbor accident. and the emperor i think i saw on the discovery channel for the biggest cichlids... omg. ha, and then on google images they have a photographer next to one in the water and it is as big as he is almost. YIKES. and the other one i have had too, it was like a electic blue one i think.. ?

I did have an African community that I had adopted that ate feeders..

They ate them like Piranha would.. they were of the assorted tank sort .. I adopted a nice sized group.. Colorful it was.. Allot of fun too..

ha i like you choice of words... "colorful it was" ha. ya i started out with something like that, and all i had my neighbor do was feed them once and he fed them half a bag of pellets, 8 out of 14 in my 55 gallon tank died. so sad and smelly. but then i ended up buying a frontosa and a couple other ones that i really liked, before i was just excited so i threw every color i could in the tank. this time i want to know and love what i put in the tank. i think the sabertooth ones would be suitable. they are expensive right?

I have seen them as low as 35-45.00 but not often...

They school well :) Not all sp of the sabertooth school well.. But My buddies hang together and they are really fun to watch eat... Team work comes out in them..

sweeet, my fish need to go to school to be schooling fish. what is a pyara. and i think the other one you are saying is peacock bass? does your buddy have any other fish in there with his sabertooth'ss's's?

All the fish you guys are talking about are lousy choices for a 4' 110 gallon.

What defines aggressive?

Do you want fish that eat other fish?

Do you want fish that are territorial and constantly chase each other?

Most Malawi Mbuna are reasonably nasty, and won't outgrow that tank. Salvini was a good suggestion, give us more info and you will get better answers.
