New Coatzacoalcos.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A 75 is large enough for a full grown Coatzacoalcos. I would give a pleco a shot.

I've only tried cories & sevs with my viejas and was unsuccessful with both. The viejas harrassed the cories. It wasn't aggression that bothered the sev, he just couldn't compete with the speed & crazy feeding response of viejas.

What has worked for me in the past was a small cichlid that the bigger fish does not see as a threat.if you try that have a good hide the smaller fish can fit in.I once put a small F salvini in with my big hybrid, the salvini hid for 2 weeks, Then got brave enough, eventually got accepted.you could try:HRP, sajica, cutteri, rainbow

Coatzacoalcos are very active fish & get large & big bodied - especially if you get a male. I think it will harass any fish you get other than maybe plecos or a school of some type tetra. 75gal tank is not enough room for many fish when one of them is 12in+.

In a 75g, you could try a Jack Dempsey.

The reason I agree with this suggestion is because JD's are very sturdy, won't usually instigate, and typically prefer to lurk in the darker, hidden areas of the aquarium (depending on the individual of course).

Once the Coatzacoalcos reaches max size, however, you face the risk of it claiming the whole aqaurium. If that does happen, you will be left with one fish anyway.

I would give it a try and monitor the situation pretty closely over the course of the next few months. If at any point there is strong conflict, you can either upgrade, or place the JD in a 55+ gallon.

I think I will just keep the Coatzacoalcos and the Goldspot on their own. The Gold spot makes such a mess that its best that I don't over stock the tank.
