Brisbane is the capital of Queensland, the only thing is it's sub-tropical where I am as brisbane is in the very south east corner. Do you think I should catch one and acclimatise it to freshwater? I'll have to resarch tarpon.

Doubt it. They are found in brackish conditions as well, and a quick look on google and I have found that the tarpon is found near me.

yep....
but apparently the pure fresh ones are the ones that get to 50 plus cm.
 
Oh well, I guess i'll try and look around in river mouths. Might take any other freshy fishes I find too.

good luck.
kinda hard to catch tarpon with nets LOL.
but fishing with hooks can hurt...try barbless hooks.
we get the indos here too.
but only salt and brackish.

Nah i'll go with a small barbed hook, and the casting nets. May even start looking before school hols end.
