Black Sun, like I told Lupin elsewhere-I feed tiny chunks of human grade 100% spirulina to my Plecs once a week or so and it has lots of iodine in it. I'm going to do the same for the crays. Then I just won't have to worry about putting it in the water.

Heh, that's actually something I give my crayfish lol. It's also good for bringing out the coloration in some species of crayfish, too.

What kind of Plecs do you have?

I haven't added any iodine to my marble cray tank. And i've had several molts and just this last week had a marble cray drop her second spawn. Crazy seeing those little buggers flying all over the tank. Still ahve some of their older brothers and sister still around too.
My pike loves Marble crayfish heh
I'm leaning real heavy towards getting some Marble Crays for one of the cray tanks and that's the reason. My Oscars would looooove all those baby crays!

I'm a Plec-aholic and an Oscar-aholic. I've got 9 Plecs, 4 are 2 different kinds of Royals, a Para Plec, a Bristlenose, a Leopard Plec, Green Phantom, and an unidentified Pekoltia. They're as fascinating as Crays to me. I watch them for hours hypnotized lol

Ooo, I love plecos. I used to have quite a few of them until my love for things with sharp pointy bits and carnivorous tendencies took over (bichirs, crayfish, crabs, eels, catfish, etc). Then I had to rehome them so they didn't become someone's dinner.

And I love Oscars, too. I brought one back once from a fishing trip (gotta love pet dumps, grr), but I ended up letting my boss at the time take it for his tanks. Eventually, I'd like to get my own but I'm waiting for my RTC to grow out and be moved to a pond before I get anymore large fish for indoors. I really want one of those "platinum" ones, they look so wicked.

That reminds me, somewhere on here of MFK a bunch of us did lists of foods that contain Iodine and how much. It was constructed during another one of these Iodine "wars", to act as kind of "Here, here's possible alternatives to using certain foods over water additives" type thing. Do we still have that around any place? Some people got really in depth, even citing certain areas, farms, countries, fish species, etc in which Iodine was shown to be in higher forms in.
I tried a search on iodine in this section but I can't find it. I'm interested to read this thread.

Hey, someone has to. It might as well be the all knowing mod, we all love and adore! (I suck up more than a Hoover, don't I? lol) No, but really. It's nice when you chime in because you're one of the few people with the experience, extensive studying, sources, etc going on. Keep studying, just uh... don't let your head burst, ya know? :D
I don't pretend nor consider myself to be all knowing. I learn something new everyday. I just like the scientific approaches that come in this hobby and try to study them as much as possible.:)

This thread is from last July or Aug but you're right. P.Clarkii is also called the red swamp cray. I've still got him and he's still one of my favorite critters.

It depends on your fish, I had two of the and the first one get eaten with in a week, the other made it for about a year. I think that the fish gave him a heart attack from over stress even with a tunnel he hide in. I was always fun to watch him barricade himself in the tunnel.

lol i know this is old but why does your bait shop have a snapping turtle tank?

Awesome, im finding crays to be so much more interesting they have a novelty life span of years!!!! My oscar bores the crap outta me, but my yabbies & marrons are forever!!!!
You guys get some really nice fw crays though, jealous.
