New Dat problems

Hi all

Got my first Dat yesterday and have a couple of questions/problems. He is a Widebar and a bit over 10cm/4inches

He is very shy, what can i do to increase his activity levels? he hides in a cave most of the day. i will be getting a shoal of silver dollars soon, will this help him become more active?

i tried to feed him today as he didn't look stressed but he didnt touch the frozen bloodworm. Should i be feeding him this? Would else could i feed him to grow him up quickly?

Dats are usually pretty shy, give them time and the silver dollars will deff help.

Blood worms is a good choice, you can also try mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, cut up market shrimp, and krill. Also the faster you get them on pellets the better.

Are you sure its a Wide bar at that size? I would love to see some pics.

O.K thanks i will try some of that, how about mussel?

i have some pics i just need to work out how to attach them. I think its a wide bar. maybe u guys could I.D it for me?

im sorry to say the chances of it being a wide bar at 4inch hear in the UK are very very slim show some pics im 99.9% sure its an indo

makes more sense, and they are usually the most timid of the Dat species. They will come out with time, might take a while

im not trying to rush him i just dont really know how long to expect as im new to Dats.

I have had Thin bars take a month to start swiming around, and I have a NTT now that took over a year to get comfortable enough to not be hiding all the time.

you cant put a time on when it will settle.
could be a day could be a week or maybe more.
i have a thin bar that was outgoing for months and now just sits in the corner, you can never tell how they will act.

Find out what he has been eating and feed that it may help to dim or leave the lights out for a few days,or gust give it time.My thin bar is very active at feeding time and with the lights out ,i have moon lights dats are nocturnal.
