Apparently they can get up to 24 inches but I have yet to see one that big. However, 20 and 21 inchers are around every so often in some Asian countries. Hopefully I can get a huge one someday.
Ming, the fish could be as old as you (although you are not old) or could be quite young as it was raised on a huge outdoor pond eating whatever he could. I know the guy said he had him for 4 years but was never clear on how big he was when purchased. My guess is that the fish was about 5-6 inches, which would still be an incredible growth rate for this fish.
Oh yes, and the other huge Dats I have/had are a different story. Most of them passed away when I got hit by the "datnoid disease" a year ago but the 3 or 4 that survived are doing very well. Aside from this 18 inch Pulcher the next 2 big ones are a 17.5 inch Indo and a 16 inch Pulcher.
Wes, you said that if I got an 18 incher you were going to ship me your 16 incher free of charge to pair with him. Now you are trying to get the 18 incher? That was not the deal my friend, so start packing your wide bar now and get him to the airport, LOL.
