Just got 6 new adult Discus for my 90 gallon tank. They’re by themselves. Got them 2 days ago. They’re not eating yet. Is this normal? Are they still getting used to the tank?

I've got an unsupported theory that the smarter and more territorial fish take longer to acclimate to a new tank because, unlike less smart and less territorial fish, they recognize that they are somewhere new and might be in danger unless they secure a safe place to eat.

True or not true, it at least justifies some reason to be patient after you get the fish in the tank.

It’s been a week and still not eating. Hiding most of the time too. Tried beefheart. Tried frozen Bloodworms. No good. Raised temperature the other day to 88 degrees. Other fish, German Blue Rans and a few Bristle Nose Plecos are eating and doing just fine. I do 50% water changes every 3 days. Tested water again PH 7.2, 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitites, 5 ppm Nitrates. Tank is in an area where we do walk by it to get into a room. But it just my wife and I who live in the house so it’s not that much traffic walking by. I read that it takes weeks sometimes. I hope that the case. Any advice?

they'll go weeks w/out eating when they ship them no worries.. if they're little could move them in refugium give them own space / less competition. otherwise try epsom salt today and try feeding again until tmw night + water change maybe just do 25% every day and a half vs 50%, could be stressful for fish.

Ok. Thanks. I Just re read the breeders note to me. He had them in water that has a PH of 6.4. Mine is 7.2. I guess that could be an issue too

Tomorrow will be 2 weeks without eating. They seem to hide a lot too. Could it take even longer for the to get used to the tank?
