New Discus Sick pls help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The second orange one gone aswell.....:(
bad day for my tank and me.......

The others seems to be responsing well to the meds.... look a bit more agile and moving around.

Stopped the CO2 injection for a few hours and the PH rose to 7.7 from 7.3. i dont seem to get what is going wrong does the ph rise so quickly.

Co2 and pH are directly linked. More co2 injection = lower pH, less co2 = higher pH, the waters buffering capacity will bring the pH back up quite quickly.

You want lower pH for the discus usually around 6.5 or so. Do not use salt for treating discus. Bad idea. I learned the hard way on that. It doesn't matter so much what the pH is at but you want it to stay stable. Too much variance is not good. It will just make things worse. My discus respond well to Pimafix and Melafix. Other than the one that got bloat and died they are all back to normal now. They are fragile fish for sure. Get the pH stable and leave it and don't raise the temp too much either. Some people believe it is ok to raise the temp high but it puts more stress on them and takes oxygen out of the water. They breathe harder at warmer temps.

switched on the ph slightly and the ph is now at 7.45 a blue cobalt is now darker and slow.....its swimming around just the color is darker..........

With domestic discus, pH doesn't matter. Many are kept, and bred at higher pH. 6.5 would only be necessary for a wild discus.

today i noticed white spots on the blue cobalts.......changing 25% water now in order to re dose with Jungle Ick clear...

Thanks for all the input....was away for a bit...!

will keep u guys posted on it.

oo that ph problem. you need use ph decreaser, and leave it 24 hrs before you put the fish, that happen to me once all my discus died just like that. ph 5 - 6.5 thats what I know, and temp should 83F up is bettter

That isn't necessary anymore, and hasn't been for a long time. Domestic discus are very hardy when it comes to pH now at days. The more important thing is that the pH be consistent.

yah i agree....my ph has been monitored by the Seramic Solenoid system and its electronically controlled to be at 7.3 now a days. Since my fishes are juvy's they need to be more cared for i guess....

I am trying for water changes every 3-4 days instead of weekly water changes.
