i decided to not go with the planted tank seems to be too much trouble for a new discus owner i appreciate all the help i will post pics when everything is set uppp
you can go for a more natural look. all it takes is fine sand and some wood. my wild tank is so easy to maintain. I do a 50% wc, vacuum, and clean the glass in about 1/2 hour. just a few floating plants to help with the nitrates and elgae.

Yeah you don't want to learn plants with discus in the tank, angels are better for that, or kirbensis. Plants aren't hard, they are just another variable is all. Once you learn the basics the are really easy.

WOW i feel like you read my mind that is exactly how i would like my tank to look. Might i ask where you got your sand and how often do you do water changes and gravel Vacs. Also what kind of floating plants do you have and are they easy to maintain. please please please PM me your tank is almost exactly how i wanted mine so all the help would be greatly appreciated thank you so muchhh
