2.5 hours later
55 Gallon 1800gph
168 scrubbies
20 pounds of ceramic rings
many miscellanious rubbish
and a filter sock
now time to clean!:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

btw: anybody using a filter sock, is it always this loud??? how do i dampen the gurgling.

My filter socks are not loud at all, they are diy though so that may be the reason. I have the inlet pipes under water three or four inches and also have several holes drilled into them.

Here is a picture showing how I set it up.

looks liek you just took a tank, added a pump, and dumped crap in there...

GREAT JOB!:headbang:ROFL:
seriously though,nice job.

I would set the pump on the bottom of the sump. Also what diameter pipe are you using to feed the sump? It looks a little small to support 1800gph.

the pump is a utility pump from home depot i dont know if it can be fully submerged. i was planningto test it out today.
its 1800 at 0 head. im sure it got reduced a little at 5 ft. and the piping is probaly too small. gohta work on that later.

Along with the fact that the water isn't forced to go through the media. You need to setup some trays or dividers or something so the water has to pass through the media, not around it.

your sump kind of defeats the purpose of a wet-dry since everything is submerged.
thats why he didnt call it a DIY wet/dry!!:ROFL::ROFL:

exactly. i made sure i said sump
i wasnt trying to make a wet dry. the previous filtration was a wet dry.
i prefer just using a tank and filling it up with ceramic rings to the top.
inspired by r1 :)
im planning to fill up the whole thing with ceramic rings.
and get rid of the scrubbies.
but ceramic rings are putting a hole in my pocket.
as you can see 20 pounds looks like nothing.
