Everyone seems to love a guessing game around here, so do you know what these are? The genus should be immediately obvious, but the species...

Yep. :D

I don't think I've ever seen them mentioned around here. They've only been formally described for a couple years? At any rate, I've always wanted to try Dicrossus, so I figured these were a good place to start.

Wow. Never even heard of these guys. My skills must be atrophing. Obviously I need more tanks.

And much better music than is usually heard on the videos, kudos.

Death metal, gangster rap, and dubstep didn't feel appropriate for dwarf cichlids. ;)

I'd never heard of them either. I was only aware of D. maculatus and D. filamentosus. Apparently there are three additional species: D. warzeli, D. gladicauda, and D. foirni. Once I saw the adult pictures of the foirni, I knew I had to jump on these guys. Unfortunately, the two largest of the group were DOA (rough shipping from Hawaii, probably) so I'm only left with five. I hope they're not all female! I took some pictures but they are hard to get into focus being so small.

They look so cool! I'm playing with a few of the more common filamentosus. Where did you get them?

They came from an Aquabidder in Hawaii. I completely forgot to bid on the auction before it ended, so I emailed him and luckily managed to buy what was left over. I hope he breeds more because I'd like to get another group and increase my chances of spawning them. They're going to require really soft, acidic water, but I think they're small enough that it should be manageable to run RO for them. He's growing the juvies out in hard water without issue so I decided that was all the encouragement I needed. :D

I had heard of the D. gladicauda ... the swordtailed species before but not the other two.

Hopefully they aren't all female, but the good news is they seem to be too small to tell yet anyway.
