New DYI Tank 135 in progress

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
May i just say i think its great you had the balls to do that. In my opinion its looking decent and i'm sure its much more rewarding to build your own tank.

Keep up the good work!

that is really cool, I am building a house this summer and think I will build a tank like that right into it. Mine will be for large mouth bass. I have 3 smaller store tanks but want something that big to be more personal. I have 2 kids and a 3rd on the way this summer. So will have to wait till next year for the tank since we will be living in a tent while I build the house. Anyhow, enough of that, thanks for the inspiration.

its a bust, i had it set up in our sun room for 2 days, day one the drain tube came out of the 55 gall i was usin for a filter under the tank, only for a few seconds but water everywhere. This is a beuatifull old house with inlaid hardwood floors. today is monday i went to work, got a call from wife, when she got home there was water running over the edge. i was perplexed, she was paniced. told her to turn the pump off. got home, total mess, turtle was missing also. kids and wife searched everywhere for turtle, i started tearing down. got almost all tore down and heard a scratching in the overflow box. STUPID TURTLE climbed into overlflow box, got sucked to drain and plugged it, causing the aquarium to fill and overflow.

too risky to have the diy aquarium in the house, the kids can put a lizard or something in it in their room, but no more on the main floor.

overall it was a good experience cause it is something ive wanted to do since i was a kid. but whata pain. i do have to say when it was set up it was hot. the back ground and statues i will save till im in the mood to buy a large aquarium. I would only put a large aqurium in the basement from now on, the amount of water i cleaned up was unbeliveable. what a mess.

if your thinking of doing one of these go for it, you could have better luck, i probly spent 3 or 4 hundred bucks, not sure, was cheap entertainment for a minnesota winter.

peace out all!!

i shouldnt p!ss on your parade but im evil, that tank looks *****e... could have got a really nice second hand one for less.
It's not always about the money and time my friend.
What are you passionate about danny boy?
I give him tons of credit for realizing an idea, and having the determination to overcome some awfully tremendous pitfalls, and actually make it happen (if it were me I would need copiuos amounts of really good skunk weed to make it through those ordeals without putting that thing in the dumpster, let alone actually fill it with water!)
If half, excuse me, one third of the people that run this country had the determination and will to go as far as he has with his DIY aquarium project as they have with the task of running our government this would truly be "The United States of America" as it was intended to be back in 1776.

I agree its pretty ghetto, Its a work in progress though, it should be pretty cool in the end. Its definatly been challenging, at least give me credit for having the balls to post it. I am hoping people can learn from my mistakes. thats what mfk is all about.
That's right!:grinyes: Keep up the good work:thumbsup: Love those Easter Island heads! Very creative! Ever think about making them to sell on Ebay or Aquabid?

You are a true inspiration, a credit the the hobby. You poured you heart into this project & it shows. Ghetto or not, it tales b@llz to take a project like this, have the set-backs that you did & get back on it & make it work..

Kudos to you, & your wife for letting you set it up again.
