Hi all,

Im interested in attempting to breed my male ebjd with a bg jack. I am not looking to get rich, just off set some of the money i spend in the hobby and probably have some fun during the process. i have a 90 and a 55 gallon tank set up and a 40 gallon to be set up soon. My male is about 3 inches. so here is where my questions begin...

at what size is will my ebjd become sexually mature??

Where can i get some blue gene females? preferably from a reputable breeder?

and lastly, any advice anyone has to help me out anywhere in this process will be greatly appreciated.

thank you for reading

They become sexually mature at around 3 or 4 inches.

I'm not sure but I think the member Calihawk had some BGJD not long ago... from a breeding project of his own. Try contacting him.

Some advice... get a UV sterilizer, it helps a lot with EBJD. Set up a couple of 10 gal tanks to separate the EBJD fry from the regulars (smaller tanks are easier to keep up with, less space means the fry have an easier time finding food).

thank you for your responses. I was thinking of buying two or three blue genes in case one isn't enough to get a match. Do you have more than one?? And also I want my male to grow out a little more before getting the females

i already have my male. i was looking to get three or four females. just curious what would you want for the female?

Here is a link on breeding EBJD: http://jackdempseycichlid.com/breeding-electric-blue-jack-dempsey-cichlids/

Once you get a spawn of EBJD, the lighter colored fry will have to be separated from the normal jack dempsey fry or they will be killed. These fry are fragile, and not that easy to raise. Many experienced breeders that I know gave up on breeding them because their is too much work involved for the amount of fry that are produced. Good luck if you try.

great advice! Thank u very much

I have also bred them , uv sterlizer is a good idea . however I have a tank where never used and they where fine. I think you just have to feed them well, water maintenece and Live baby brine shrimp. Good luck.

Also get blue gene from some one who has actually bred them not from some one who gets them free from some one else.
