iv never had dempseys but i have heard from others that theirs are either very outgoing or really skittish and hide all the time, but i would give them some time they are still getting used to the new place after all and since there are no other large cichlids in there they should come out of their shell pretty soon

In a bare bottomed tank with all 4 sides wide open I would expect just abotu any young fish to feel vulnerable, and therefore be skittish...

I understand it is easier to keep a bare bottomed tank spotless... but I also feel it is going to have other negative impacts. Such as fish being prone to being skittish...

Putting a background on the back and possibly even the sides will likely make it a lot less skittish...

I think it has a lot less to do with the breed and a lot more to do with the environment...

from time to time my ebjd pectoral fins will be movin super fast, then its fins will move reg speed, is this normal? skittish? sorry it might be nothing but these things r so fragile...
