New Eheim 2080 setup - Help needed

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i don't use spraybars. Don't worry too much about water movement in the tank. You can add a koralia powerhead to increase your flow to remove dead spots in your tank.

I think the double figure 8 loop is doing great!

Water clears from feeding in about 20 mins.

How long should I run the uv for per day. It is a36 watt

Thanks

eheim is a great bio filter but as a mechanical filter its not the best. i still prefer HOB for mechanical filtration. my UV is 18w on a 150g. I run it 24/7 but I heard of people here running for 12hrs a day. My water clears in 10-15mims after feeding. :-)

The only flaw I see in your plan is that adding two prefilters and a UV inline with the 2080 might add quite a bit of headloss.

In my experience the 2080 has pretty poor mechanical sucking power at the inlet (especially since there are two inlets) so by adding in two prefilters and a UV it might severely cripple its mechanical suction ability.

Hi,

My other option is to turn the classic into a big mechanical filter, removing all of the eheim mech and substrate pro, and replace it with the sponge media.

So have a pre filter then the classic, then my reactor.

Would that be better?

Sure, you said "My other option is to turn the classic into a big mechanical filter, removing all of the eheim mech and substrate pro, and replace it with the sponge media."

I responded with a link of a guy who has been using filter floss as his only media to make his 2260 "big mechanical filter". Just another option in case you did decide to go this direction.

That's all.

Good luck.

Hi,

Maybe I'm being dumb but I don't see how that link related to this thread..

Please explain

Ahh brain fade on my part,I was thinking of using different grades of filter pad but he seems to have a cheap way to go although it looks like some skill is required to pack it perfectly!

Thanks for the link
