i almost bought a stingray today for 35 bucks, they said it was a teacup stingray, they actually are really good at keeping fish and always are healthy, he is about 4in and they have had hom fr almost 3 months now and isnt much bigger, any idea what kind of stingray this might be? and how big might he get

tea cup is a term used in the hobby for juvenial/pups
Based on price it is most likely a Potamotrygon Reticulata or Retic ray (they usually are sold as tea cups.
The debate is in the air on how big they get. It was thought they only get 14'' but depending on
where they were collected from (more likely Colombia seems to be where most are coming in from right now)
now it is believed they can exceed 18'' and they have really long tails which would require a
tank with a wide footprint as they start to reach adulthood.
Just remember when buying a ray, ask them to feed it and find out what it has been eating.
If the ray doesn't eat while you're there don't buy it, it'll most likely die in time.
Did it look like this ( click link)

BTW where did you see it?

almost 100% sure thats the guy, it was at plymouth pet in aquarium, thats too bad, i would love to get the little guy, but im gonna wait till i get my 300g going till i even think about starting a ray tank, i was thinking that the ray would only get up to maybe 8" im glad i waited to ask, i was sooo close to getting him

all rays will exceed 14''
P7-Potamotrygon Scobina being the smallest 14-18'' (expencive hard to find)Brazil
P14-Potamotrygon sp. "Itaituba" 18'' (very expencive)Brazil
Potamotrygon reticulata 18-24''? (cheapest and most common at LFS)Colombia
P6 – Potamotrygon Hystrix - "Brazil" 18''+
these are the 4 smallest rays and there is a ban on exportation of all Brazillian rays
so they're hard to get unless captive bred, so they usually very expencive.
Most other rays will exceed 24''

hey AJ no problem about the crays,I found ghost shrimp for 4 cents.

4 cents a piece?! That's unbelievable. If it actually works out, I'd like at least 1000 of them.
