i just bought a 4.5 foot high custom acrylic tank,any ideas on filtration for such a high tank,I am putting discus in it.its around 500 gallons.

there are nothing better then sump tank for such tank like that ;)

I agree with sticky about using a wet/dry for a tank that size although a wet/dry and a couple fx5's would be even better, although somewhat cost prohibitive. Your wet/dry would have to be pretty big too if that's the only filter...I would think at least a 90g or a couple 40g's.

There you go. Add a wet/dry, remove the AC's, bada bing bada boom your tank's crystal clear.
 
and you could still use those AC's for cycling or cloudy days or whatever.
