Ricky 250 pounds is alot for a 125 gallon tank?
i only used like 80 pounds of substrate for my 125 and it is pretty darn deep

what kind of africans you want to do?
Frontosa colony? we have an awesome group of tropheus ilangi at the shop i work at, maybe 18 full grown breeders some of them are holding eggs and fry right now
they would do great in a big tank like that

hey ricky i have buckets of cool african cichlid substrate you can have if you pick it up.

I am going to show my fishkeeping ignorance here, but what exactly is it. I mean what is it supposed to look like? (african cichlid substrate)

it is crushed coral really, Africans like a higher PH around 8, the coral will raise the ph

i breed and raised african cichlids for 20 years. The substrate is a mixture of crushed coral, oyster shell, and other regular gravel. You will never need to add buffer or anything with this gravel mix, keeps ph perfect for africans and works well for breeding.

Damn, I guess I have a lot of learning to do before I jump in to this one. Thanks for the offer MsMassPoly, I would go out there just to see all the fish you have.

any time you want to come visit the west branch of the New England Aquarium you are more then welcome. You can pick my brain for african info as well.
