They could be, but ive found that many "brackish" fish can live in reg freshwater as long as you have a lil salt in the water. Only goby i know that cant tolerate non brackish water is a Dragon Goby.

Yes, true gobies are brackish, but the marbled goby (Oxyeleotris marmorata) isn't a true goby. The sleeper gobies are part of the family Eleotridae, where as the true gobies belong to Gobiidae.

The sand goby occurs in freshwater and any slow moving water sources. If you really want to see these guys in action, place a lot of driftwood in the tank, toss in some shiners, grab a beer and sit back and watch a true ambush predator at work...
