Very addition. If you wanna mix it without stressing the fish, do it while doing water change. I stir my sand like crazy to remove any gas that got trap in the bottom. Non of my fish gets stress. Then over time they are mixed well.

I don't like to mess with sand cuz it'll get into anything that it comes in close contact with. I prefer smaller grain gravels.King-eL;3865464; said:Yep they use the sand as fish litter. lol! I'm running a sump so it's not a problem plus once beneficial bacteria settled in the sand it won't take 20 minutes to clear. Mine just take 1-2 minutes and water is back to crystal clear.
Or you can add a stingray and it will do the job for you. Or maybe a ripsaw catfish as they like to vacuum the substrates and mixing them along the way.
