Just got my wild blue monster from Rapps, still stressed because of the journey so colors are not fully flared up yet also, can anybody sex him/her from these pics, Rapps said it was a male let me know
I love the umbees. Wish I had something bigger than a 150, I'd get some. There were some baby green umbees at the ACA convention I could have bought, the green ones are my preference. I held off, but it was tough. Man, I need more tank space.
Based on the pics right now, I want to say male. The only lead I have is the body shape is more elongated and the horizontal black stripe is prevalent. Again, these are so called "trademarks" of male umbees that have been passed down to me from others who have owned umbees for years. A clear indication of a female is the black on the dorsal or pelvic fin...that is pretty much a 100% confirmation. Sometimes a female will only show this when she is around a male umbee.
I myself picked up 3 from Rapps. The female that I have never showed any signs of the horizontal "black" bar and has a "stumpier" body. Definitely post some updated pics in the future including when his colors start to develop and/or come back.
Here's a pic of my potential male which Rapps sexed also as a male. There are times when I think female (yellow coloration throws you off) especially when I first got him but as of now he's looking more male to me every day. The pics below don't show the horizontal bar but I see almost all the time. Good luck with yours...they're truly amazing fish w/ tons of personality and the complete package
i dunno man i'm kinda leaning towards female. it may just be the photo's though but it seems to be quite yellow and i've noticed most females have the black "tear drop" under their eye which yours is showing. i'd say it's still a little too small to sex. give it another couple of months and post pics again to try get a definite answer
