New Festae and Midas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
These are definitely not Festae, and are some sort of Amphilophus. Unfortunately, since they were labeled as festae/red terror/false red terror, and are clearly not Mayaheros Festae, it would be best to label them as "Midevils" due to the fact that they are more than likely a hybrid within the Amphilophus genus

ps-you're going to enjoy the peeling process, it's awesome to keep track of :D
I've done the whole Midas/peeling idas thing before, so no biggie. I remember back in March this store had dozens of peeling Midas labelled Midas so I think these are just leftovers from that clutch, and some one moved them and didn't ask what they were before labelling them again. I already worked it out,, tomorrow i'm taking back 3 of them and trading even for a Kelberi
Lol. Beani and mayans are mayaheros
Isn't beani in Nandopsis?

Isn't beani in Nandopsis?
No, it is not.
It has been around 10 years or more, now, that the genus Nandopsis has been restricted to the cichlids from the Caribbean Islands. So, only 3 species in the genus Nandopsis : Nandopsis hatiensis, N. tetracanthus and N. ramsdeni.
Mayaheros beani is the most current and valid scientific name for beani.
To know the current scientific names of cichlids, I think this site is most helpful:

Well, i took back 3 of the 4 which through a bit of research and talking to the store found them to be Barred Midas - so I did end up keeping one and he's growing like a weed, still isn't peeling and is getting excellent coloration - eats like a pig too. Here he is before i upgrade him to the 75g this week. He's between 4"- 4.5" so he's doubled his size in ONE month, just like the little Dovii i bought the week after.
