Hey guys.

Im in the process of making a new filter for my ray/aro tank.

The current one i have now does a great job, but i think i can do better.

The new design will incorporate a wet/dry(trickle tower), and a fluidized bed.

The fluidized bed will be the first contact point, then the tower will be second.

I have not seen any thing like this as of yet, so i had nothing to go on for designing it.

I will be posting this in videos, instead of pictures..

Heres what i am using now:

Heres what im working on:

Yes, i did see that video actually.. Thats where i got the idea to run the air into pvc pipes in the shape of the bottom of the chamber... i think i'll try airstones first, then powerheads, then a pump.... see what works best.

Interesting idea - using the K1 Media. Have you used this before? How much do you use vs. the size of your display tank?

K1 media is rated by how much waste it can process, and how many fish it will support... not by the tank size... All media should be rated like this instead of how many gallons it will support.

Since im using 50L, here is what mine will handle:

It will process a max of 250 grams of waste a day.(just over a 1/2 pound)

Based on that, i can stock up to 55 pounds of fish if i feed 1% of their body weight.

If i feed more, like 2-3% of the fish's body weight, i can have 27-40 pounds of fish.

In my tank i have approx 15 pounds of fish, and i'm feeding around 2% body weight.

So this will be almost twice as much as i need..... and lets not forget about the 20gals of Bio balls i have in this filter.

The balls will support about 225 grams of waste a day. Which is almost the same as the K1. (although i am using half the ammount of K1 as i am bio balls)

So with that said, i have about 4Xs the amount of media i need to support my fish.

Tank size is based off of fish kept...

Turnover rate of the display tank is based off of tank size, and type of filtration.
