NEW FILTER HOW LONG TILL I CAN REMOVE THE OLD ONE

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Once you have removed and squeezed the mulm out of the old filter, do not add the media back to it, however... I would suggest keeping it on for a few more days running (media-less) just for added current .... once the tank clears up (12-24h) you should have just about enough to remove the old one (again after a few days... we want to keep the current) then ~ if you 'are' able to.. just give the substrate a quick stir ... (trying to get as much into the new as possible) .

Now I am sure there will be a few that say this is overkill .... but, to me.. I like the safe then sorry quote..

Any advice on replacing an UGF with a HOB? I was advised to wait at least 6 weeks before enduring the painful process of removing the UGF (which has been running over a year). My patience is wearing thin but if I must then I must

Thanks i will give it a few more days and let him have it what kind of fish do you have in your Community Chaos tank TaylorD ?

lmao.. what do I have? nothing, The tank used to be mine, then I bought my wife a 90 that needed to be resealed. After two attempts to the reseal, and close to 180 of water on the basement floor.. I sold my entire cichlid collection so my wife could take everything she had in her tank to mine.

I personally only have a 55g. atm.. MY Channa tank. (doing a 300g. build here in sept.)

As for whats in the tank...
4 Discus
3 Angel
3 Dwarf Gourami
5 Krib
4 jouvie Bala's
20-25 Mixed Danio/Tetra
Few different breed pleco
and two electric blue Crays.

...An Under Ground Filter? (below the substrate?)
No.. lol, I'm not sure who told you 4-weeks. I wouldn't treat it any different then any other filter switch. (I personally dont own nor have owned an UGF) As long an you can "muddy" up your water with your current filters media, and have new media in what you plan to switch to, your safe to do the change only after a few days. I don't exactly know how the media works with an ugf.. if its anything like a hob, or canister ... try whats suggested ..
