Tank:75g

Stock: 2 3" oscars 1 syno cat

Curent filtration: 1 Emp 400 and 350mag that only runs the micron cartredge

I will be moveing the stock to a 140 in 9-12 mo. However at the current rate My O's are going to quickly outgrow the bio capacity of the single Emp400. I currnely run just 2 layers of bonded filterpad in the media tank. So I am thinking of adding either an AC110 packed with ceramic rings and the surface skimmer attachment, or an XP3. I considerd the FX5 but its a bit steep for me atm and I would like to start a filter so BB is cultured up ASAP. So whats the general opinion? an AC110 w/rings/surface skimer? or XP3?

That is a tough choice. I would say AC110 though..

i recommend adding a sponge filter to all tanks. its very cheap, provides oxygen to the tank, and helps supplement the BB

This is very true. I run sponges a lot as well. They also double as a backup during power outages if you use a good quality battery powered air pump or minor back up electricity.

Well im moveing off the grid soon so I wont have to worry about power outtages or electric bills lol,OK so the AC110 is obviously more popular... has anyone used the surface skimmer attachment for it?

You know ive never heard of it until you mentioned it. Let me know how it works they are pretty reasonably priced.
How far off the grid are you moving btw? I wanna live without electric bills and outages too... unless I gotta join a cult :) JP man.
