was running a fluval 405 on my 100 gallon for a year or so but decided i needed to upgrade, so i went a bit over the top and got a eheim 2260 which i hope will do the job better than i actually need it as you can never have too much filtration.

now the questions and there are a few so as much help as possible would be much appreciated lol.

firstly anyone have any experience with the 2260, is it as good as its ade out to be in the reviews?

i had to take my fluval out to set it up as i did not have the room to leave them both running, obviously i took the media out and put it in the 2260 but have still seen a rise in levels is this normal? there seem to be no ill effects tho the fish and the levels will only drop.

my water as always been a little cloudy hence the upgrade in filtration as my aim is crystal clear water, but at the moment a day after installation there has been no change in clearness, is this just a bloom in the levels?

shall i be being doin water changes or just leave existing water in for a week or so to let the bloom carry on through?

also have fitted a spray bar and am getting micro bubbles blasted out due to the immence pressure, will they calm down over time or will i have to remove the bar?

shall i feed as normal or hold fire for a week or so.

some need to knows as im sure these are the questions you guys are goin to ask.

my substrate is sand, the tank is probably stocked pretty much to its capacity maybe a fraction overstocked but not much, water changes are about 40% weekly and the feeds are pellet staple once a day and a big meaty treat once a week

so i guess thats all there is to know so if anyone can take a moment to answer a few of my questions that would be really well appreciated thanks

here are a few pics of the 2260

any advice out there in this wide expance of knowledge lol drop me a line hee hee

cut your hoses shorter.....quickest way to ponit "A" to point "B" is straight line.
air bubble's might be from the floss sponges in your canister or air stuck in the loop of the hose. all the air should be out in 24 to 36 hours. feed your fish 1/4 of what you been feeding them intill the water clears. you should be good.

shall i be being doin water changes or just leave existing water in for a week or so to let the bloom carry on through? let it run just do not let levels get excessive

also have fitted a spray bar and am getting micro bubbles blasted out due to the immense pressure, will they calm down over time or will i have to remove the bar? put a tee to the bar with a valve to regulate the flow between tank and bar or make the holes bigger in the bar to slow the flow speed down

shall i feed as normal or hold fire for a week or so. feed lightly until it clears

cheers guys. useful advice.

do you reckon my water clearness will improve with the 2260 as id love to fet as close to crystal as possible lol or will i always have a slight cloudyness due to the sand

oh and in answer to your questions, yeah i just literally took the media straight out ninto the 2260 without rinsing

What is the stacking order of the media you have in the 2260? What media are you using?

Also, did you eliminate that loop of hose going into the filter inlet?

urm no i havnt cut out the loop yet as its such a pain to disconnect as the 2260 does not have shut off valves will removing the loop make that much difference.

my media stacking from bottom to top is activated carbon ceramic hoopsbio balls aquarium sponge and floss from old fluval 405 and the new floss sponge on top is this an ok layout or would i get better results doin it another way

i cant really play around with it too much at the mo as it is still cycling how long will this ful cycle take bearing in mind the 2260 has about half of the old media from the 405 as my levels dont seem to be dropping much almost a week after installation water still a little cloudy can only see to about half way down the tank looking at it from the end. but thats all i could ever see with the 405 running. will i get the crystal clear water i want once the cycle is complete?

all help and advice much appreciated

cheers guys

As stated by another poster, your hose runs should not have any loops in them. For right now, just try & straighten out the intake hose so it doesn't go up on top the filter then down to the floor then up to the tank. When you do get ready to open the filter up you can tweak the hoses better.

Also if you decide to put the filter inside your stand, it is very easy to change the way the pump mounts on top the filter. I rotated the pump so my fitting comes out the side so I could get the filter underneath my tank in the stand. The pump slides onto a mounting plate. Check the instruction book (diagram G) for how it slides off. I also removed the top filter cover to make it easier to get in & out of the stand.

I also don't use filter floss. Use a bonded filter pad or polyester pad instead. Filter floss has wispy strands that can separate & get caught in the pump impeller.

Activated carbon, if you decide to use it, should be closer to the top of the canister. I only use it for removing medication after treating a tank as it becomes ineffective after a couple weeks.

Remember any debris from your aquarium is coming in at the bottom of the filter can. So your coarse media should be on the bottom, then a medium media, then bio media & finally fine media.
