New filtration setup questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I figured I may as well provide an update to this thread as I've made some progress. I picked up a 75g sump with baffles for $25 a few months ago. All it needed was a bit of resealing. After a lot of procrastination, some touching up to the sump, and a lot of trips to Home Depot, I have a working sump~20170109_211505.jpg 20170109_211605.jpg 20170109_211609.jpg 20170109_211605.jpg 20170109_211609.jpg 20170109_211612.jpg 20170109_211619.jpg 20170109_211627.jpg

Nice sump!

I kind of wish I would have held out for a 75 gallon sump but I am still happy with my 55 gallon setup.

Did you drill your tank or did you get a HOB overflow? Also, what return pump are you using and what kind of flow are you running?

Great looking setup!

I'd rather not explain it in detail now, but I have it written up somewhere in this thread. I'm using an acrylic extension on top of the tank with bulkheads in the back, so I can have the benefits of a drilled tank without having to drill it.

The pump was from lowes. It's a utilitech 1/3 horsepower 24 gallon per minute submersible pump.20170109_214552.jpg

Oh yeah, I remember now. This is the setup where your dad "extended" the tank with acrylic that the overflows were installed in so that the glass didn't have to be drilled. If I'm remembering correctly.

I'd love to see some pictures if you feel like posting them up.

I would turn the lights on for the picture so you could see it better but it just makes it worse with the glare.
