New Firemouth, very active and sociable.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
gotta love firemouths ,reliably BEAUTIFUL FISH.

Other than the red, there's also not hardly any horizontal marking. I was just at my LFS last night and while their horizontal markings were very faded, they could still be seen

There's also no spot on the caudal peduncle. But I'm no Thorichthys expert. ;)

Yeah I did an ID thread and like 4 people said 100% firemouth, but can I trust them? who knows. Personally to me it looks Thorichthys ellioti, but hey Im happy whatever it is.

Thanks man, no matter what species it is, its a neat little fish! I read that firemouths are shy, and are last to the food and hide a lot. Probably the opposite with this little fish. It attacks the food before the tiger barbs get to it, and is constantly at the front of the tank and showing off and sifting sand, really cool.

I was thinking Ellioti too. I worked at a LFS that had a bunch, still kicking myself for not getting one. This one looks just like them. But on the other hand I've seen some FM's that look like this.

Cool Firemouth, I currently have one myself that is a mean SOB, never backs down for a territory in the tank against my Salvini and Cuban.

Looks like Torichthys Helleri which have a yellow hue, lots of blue spangles, no red throat and visible vertical bars. But it's prob. ellioti like everyone else suggested.

And there's no reliable way of sexing Firemouth by pictures. Venting is the only way. All these Wikipedia sexing methods are so annoying lol
