Whays a uv filter?

Joey Paul

Theres technically two types of UV filter units, one that just basically kills free floating algae, and one that is like a sterilization unit that will kill most parasites and free floating algae..

Basically its just a unit that one would normally hook up to the output of their canister filter and then have the UV units output hose go directly back in your tank...

But its also a good idea to note that if you use a UV unit, its sometimes good to have a 2nd filter running just for bio-media as well...

Sounds pricey. If aggression doesn't go away I will trade or sell the EBJD. There is any damage done. I am new to aquariums, I am now learning more about EBJD and they sound sickly and weak. He sure is pretty though.

Joey Paul

Compared to a regular JD, sickly and weak is an understatement. The eb gene is a mutation that looks pretty, but they would never survive in the wild. Although beautiful, they wind up smaller, more prone to disease, and stuck in a hidey hole somewhere.

I've kept ebjds with other fish but they must be a couple inchs bigger than the others . There great to look at but a pain to keep. If u intend to keep him I would give him his own space once he hits about 4-5 inch they tend to be able to hold there own . And till he gets there I also recomend uv sterilizer . I know aquatop sells a inline if u have a canister filter .

I can't seem to load the pics how big is he.

2.5 inches. I dont have a canister. I have an aqua clear 30 and a penguin 350. He hides most the time. The other jack hasn't injured him at all. Just chases him around a bit. I jave a 5 gallon tank cycling. When it's done I will move hime there temporarily if I have to. What is a good target fish for the regular jack dempsey?

Joey Paul

As far as the uv go's they also sell in tank ones . Is the chasing non stop
