I just went to the LFS to pick up myself a fish that I wanted it. So then I came by and saw these fish that is called "flower parrot" (which of course isn't what I went there for).

Anyways, I purchase these 2 instead. Asked the LFS guy and they told me its a cross between blood parrot and flowerhorn. And will get as big as a parrot, other then that. It's a fish that is uncommon and not much is really known about it. But they are a cross of parrot and flowerhorn. Eat the same food as flowerhorn and parrot does. Breeding and sexing is the same as flowerhorn with its black dot on the dorsal fin. Other than that, nothing else is known about them.

Now I know that I shouldn't trust a LFS guy, but these guys are professionals unlike other LFS.

Anyways, the point is...have anyone kept these before? Know anything about it? Tank mates? etc...or maybe not, trying to see if I can breed these 2.

Got them for $19.99 each which I think its pretty cheap as I have just searched online for them. And they go anywhere between $25-$35 at about 1½" like the one I have. Blue dragon coloration for mine. I'll try to see if I can snap a few pic later on, these guys MOVES NONSTOP!!! :nilly::D

Nice pick up! Treat them like a blood parrot. They don't really have the attitude of a flowerhorn, more like a BP. They're cool fish with a lot of personality, but like a BP they're likely infertile.

Here is a pic of one that I had (jumped and died:()

Are they infertile??? LFS guy told me they can be bred if lucky. The female are fertile but the male are 50/50. Weird. He also told me that its more likely a rumor that hybrids aren't able to breed. Because the flowerhorn itself is a hybrid from many different species and line crossed into it. So what makes a blood parrot and flowerhorn? Hybrids from other species, and now hybrids crossing over each other creating these AWESOME flower parrot.

Although mines, the mouth isn't like a parrot at all. Mine has the mouth of a flowerhorn instead which is what amazes me from seeing these guys compare to most of the others.

AWSOME FISH GIRLFRIENDS BEEN WANTIN A BP I WOULD FOR SURE BY SOME LIKE THAT IF I COULD FIND THEM AROUND HOUSTON WHO SELLS THEM?

wow That really cool. A blood parrot body but the look of a FH. and a bit of orange under his chin. lol. I think thats a cool cross. Big One you should post some pic's of your new pair.

Your flower parrot sounds really interesting! get a pic up! I'm very curious!

Rallysman - your one is stunning!

And here are the pictures...sorry for the quality, these guys just never stop moving and they hate the camera.

as for infertility, they are like 99% infertile most likely. its a genetic defect in blood parrots that carries through a lot of flowerhorn strains.

Those are beautiful.
I don't know about a FH cross but I know reg Blood parrot females do have eggs. The males are the one's who are steril.
